FAQ Kick Off restructuring

We understand that there are many thoughts, feelings and questions regarding the restructuring of the Kick Off. Here are answers to many of the questions we've been getting:

  • Is Kick Off canceled?

No, the Kick Off is not canceled. We will continue to have two Kick Offs each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. The format will remain similar, offering all new students a variety of activities. This is just an organizational restructuring.

  • Are the sexmasteries still existing?

Yes, the sexmasteries are still the faculties' social committees. As social committees, they still have the responsibility to create study social activities such as sittnings, events, and other activities. New initiatives are encouraged, and we hope the sexmasteries will continue to develop student life.

  • Is the student life at risk of dying out?

No, student life will not die out. We at the student union care deeply about the well-being and safety of all our members, and strive for a diverse and fun student life. The restructuring of the Kick Off will not result in fewer fun activities.

  • What kind of incidents have happened?

We cannot state what has been shared to us in confidentiality, but the nature of the incidents has involved bullying, pennalism and harassment.

  • What will the new structure look like?

There will be project groups created at each faculty. These groups will work closely with the project leader and their faculty's board to organize the best possible Kick Off. Every student at JU has the equal opportunity to apply to take part of this new project group, if they wish to be involved in the planning of the Kick Off.

  • Is the Kick Off still going to be as nice as before?

We are incredibly grateful for our Kick Off and are committed to preserving what has worked well. Of course, we hope that those of you who love the Kick Off just as much as we do will help us build the new version and also contribute with new fun activities.

  • Why is this change necessary?

For some time, we have received testimonials of bullying, harassment and pennalism. We have been working together with JU in various ways to raise awareness about these issues with the groups it concerns but have not been able to solve the issues. In order to ensure that all students studying at JU feel safe and respected, a larger change was needed.

  • What happens with Akademien?

The work at Akademien is being restructured to create a more unified organization. We received feedback that the work at Akademien was a heavy workload for the groups. With that in mind, we have decided to open up the opportunity to work at Akademien to every student at JU. As a sexmasterist, you can of course still work at Akademien if you want to, but it is no longer a requirement for the group as a whole. The individuals in the sexmasteries were given the choice to continue working at Akademien if they wished to but have chosen to not continue working there right now.

  • How can students reach out to get support?

If a student feel like they have been mistreated they can reach out to EQO. If a student feels like they need help with their well-being they can reach out to Student Healthcare.

  • Why do we think the new structure will improve the safety and wellbeing for the students?

The new structure will result in a smaller responsibility for the groups organizing and planning the Kick Off. They will be able to focus solely on the Kick Off and the Student Union will be able to support them more than before. This puts less pressure on one group. Instead, it divides the responsibilities and makes it possible for every student to choose which parts they want to be engaged in. Of course, there are no guarantees, but we are working hard to make sure that every student feels safe.
