Get a Host Family

New in Sweden and want to know more about the typical Swedish life outside campus? A Host Family can provide you with an experience you wouldn´t get elsewhere.

Who should apply?

If you are interested in meeting a Swedish family once a month or more, this is the program for you. If you think that this sounds “too much” or are not sure of whether you will have the time or not, we kindly ask you to not apply as this program is for students who are genuinely interested in getting to know Jönköping and the Swedish culture outside of campus. It is a give-and-give program, and it is expected from you to also share your culture with the family.

Since this program is very popular among students, the Student Union can't guarantee that all students applying will get a family.

The Host Family

The Student Union does not have any definition of a family. A family can be for example a mother, a father and three children. The family can also be for example a bunch of friends, a couple with no children or single people who want to show and share the Swedish culture and get to know another culture.

The program is open for everyone! Some “families” wish to get more than one student.

1. Fill in the form below and apply to get a Host Family. You will get a confirmation email.
2. After the semester has started, you will receive an email with a notification if we have found you a family or not. If you have received a Host family, the family will receive your email address, and contact you shortly.
3. You will get an invitation for a Host Family Mingle where all families and their students are welcome to meet for the first time if we have enough families signed up. After this, you are free to meet with your family as often as you can and want to throughout the semester.
4. At the end of the semester, the Student Union will invite you to a last Farewell Meeting with your Host Family.
